This module was extracted from a working prototype device made by Candela, likely for some experimental skin dermatology treatment such as acne. The laser module was made by Applied Optronics and carries their model number DLC1208. Internally, it is an array of fiber-coupled laser diodes. The fibers are brought out in a bundle which is terminated with an SMA connector. There is also a visible red diode laser that can be used for an aiming beam. That was not used in the prototype. It is likely just a few mW with an operating current of a few 10's of mA.
This module was fully tested in the prototype before being extracted for sale. It produces 25W output at a drive current of 2.5A. At full power, voltage across the internal diode array is about 117V. It is specified to be 1208nm and a spectral measurement shows a center wavelength of 1206.5nm with a spectral width around 7nm. The laser module is attached to a heat sink with and array of 7 x 2 TECs for cooling. There are also a couple of 24V DC fans mounted to move air across the heat sink fins. This can be run for a short time with just the fans, but it dissipates about 300W and will heat up quickly. Running at high temperature (>35C) will reduce the lifetime of the laser diodes. Ideally, the TEC array should be used to keep the module temperate around 25C.
We're also including an SMA to SMA optical adapter that was used to couple the large 1000um diameter bundle output to a smaller diameter (and presumably higher NA) fiber.
