50-100W 638nm Bright Red Laser Diode Module nLight Pearl P7250-100W 638nm Bright Red Laser Diode Module nLight Pearl P72
These are prototype laser diode modules made for use in a high brightness theater projectors. They are professionally tested and guaranteed working, but due to the sensitivity, we're listing them with no returns accepted. These are not suitable for beginners and we can offer limited tech support beyond what's described in this listing. Check our other listing for the green and blue laser systems used with these to make 40,000 lumens of white light.
nLight custom made these P72 modules with 72 single-emitter, wavelength matched 638nm laser diodes. The output is combined and launched into a 400um fiber. The module requires water cooling and should not be run even for a few seconds without flowing coolant. We're including some tubing to help you get plumbed to your chiller. The heat load is 2-300W depending how hard you drive the laser. In testing here, we measured the threshold current around 550mA. We measured the power versus current up to 2.5A where the laser produces nearly 100W. I have no idea which laser diodes are used in this module, but I'd recommend running no higher than 1.5A where the output is around 50W. The output power is
very
sensitive to the baseplate temperature. I had our chiller set to 15C during testing and watched the built-in 10K NTC thermistor to be sure that the temperature was safe (i.e. thermistor resistance never went below 10K ohms which would indicate a temperature higher than 25C).
This is designed to couple into a 400um fiber made specifically for very high power lasers. These fibers have the end of the fiber isolated from the ferrule so that misalignment does not set the adhesive on fire. Sorry, we don't have one of these available just now. A laser welder cable will probably work OK, though that will be anti-reflective coated for infrared light rather than visible.
Specs:
Wavelength: 638nm +/- 2nm
Spectral Width FWHM: <2nm
Threshold Current: 550mA
Operating Current @ 50W: 1.5A (recommended)
Operating Current @ 100W: 2.5A
Forward Voltage: <155V
Operating Temperature: 15-25C, non-condensing
Temperature Monitor: 10K NTC thermistor (yellow wires)
Heat Load: 200-300W
Fiber Connector: SMA
Fiber core diameter: 400um (or larger)
To power this up, you'll need:
A constant current laser diode driver capable of producing up to 2.5A with a compliance voltage of at least 160V. We tested using the Sorensen XG300-2.8 power supplies we have available in another listing.
A water chiller with 2-300W of heat removal capacity. We tested with a ThermoTek solid state chiller. We've got a nice one of these in the store as well.
Laser safety goggles rated at least OD4 at 638nm
For fiber coupling, you'll need a 400um or larger fiber cable made for high power lasers.
