    Description

MINT NEVER HINGED SOUTH AFRICA #516 SHEET OF 25 FROM DISA 1979 EXHIBITION - - You are bidding on one mint never hinged sheet of twenty-five stamps identified as South Africa #516, the 15c portraying South Africa #C5 which were the first stamps printed by South African Government Printers.
The DISA name of the exhibition was derived from the name of the classic first issue of Israel stamps, the Doar Ivri series (Doar Ivri Southern Africa), at the same time spelling the name of the beautiful flower and emblem of the Western Cape.
At the opening of the Exhibition between 5,000 and 9,000 pigeons were released. It was held 30 March - 7 April. About 300 exhibitors from 14 countries attended.
Some of the pigeons released at the official opening carried pigeongrams that were later sent and marked “Pigeon Post” to collectors who had ordered in advance.
Stamps alone catalogue .50 with added premium for a complete sheet.
Scans at 1.5X show the entire lot.
