OLAPLEX lets you lighten your client’s hair to levels never thought possible before, without compromising the integrity of the hair. Bond Perfector No. 2 can also be used as a mini bond building treatment and as a cutting lotion.
Olaplex’s founders developed a three-step system that allows users to lighten hair by bleaching it while still maintaining a healthy undamaged appearance. Typically chemical bleach makes hair coarse and fragile, and gives it a straw-like texture.
The approach involves the addition of an active ingredient during bleach treatments to protect the hair. The active ingredient is a chemical called “bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate”, the use of which Olaplex obtained patents for. It later secured patents for alternatives to the dimaleate form used in the Olaplex products.
In its first six months on the market, Olaplex’s website received more than 20,000 orders for Olaplex products. In November 2014, it launched in the US with a L’Oréal-owned entity, Salon Centric, which is one of the largest wholesale salon and beauty supply distributors in the US.
In six months, Salon Centric opened around 100,000 accounts with Olaplex and the product generated about m of sales.
