Description
Thorlabs/Illumina Laser Engine Optics Dual-Color Laser Excitation Path (Green=532nm, Red)Here is a nice very compact ready to use laser engine optics for dual color laser excitation (Green=532nm and Red) that can be used in fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, super-resolution microscopy and other applications that require dual-line laser excitation. This setup was carefully removed from a high-end Illumina retired machine. The green Laser is missing but the red laser diode is still in place.
This setup allows you to perform a 3 sequence excitation experiment with (1): green: on, Red: off, (2): green: off, Red: on; (3) green: on, Red: on, without the need to modulate the lasers.
The green laser (532 nm) path is composed of the following optical elements:
Beam sampler: this is a beamspliter that allows to pick up a small fraction (<10%) of the laser output for real time monitoring of the laser power fluctuations using a photodiode for example. This beam sampler can be easily removed if it is not needed.
Green laser Shutter with sensor. The shutter is driven by a long life rotary solenoid L-2168-032 made by Johnson Electric (Saia-Burgess) and we believe that the sensor
is
through hole slotted optical switch
Galilean beam expander (telescope) for the green laser (Two lenses with Thorlabs LMR05/M mounts)
Chopper for green laser with sensor. The chopper is driven by Portscap can stack mini stepper motor 26MO48B2B; and we believe that the sensor is a through hole slotted optical switch.
50/50 beamsplitter for green laser mounted on New Focus 9762 mount and can be easily removed or replaced by a mirror if not needed.
Lens for green laser
Wires with connectors for the shutter, chopper and sensors.
The Red Laser path is composed of the following components:
Red laser diode with Collimator
Chopper for the red laser similar to that of the green laser
Shutter for the red laser similar to that of the green laser
Galilean beam expander (telescope) for the red laser (Two lenses with Thorlabs LMR05/M mounts)
Beam sampler for the red laser: this is a beamspliter that allows to pick up a small fraction of the laser output for real time monitoring of the laser using a photodiode for example. This beam sampler can be easily removed if it is not needed
Dichroic beamsplitter that combines the green and the red lasers
Lens for both the red and green.
Wires with connectors for the red laser, shutter, chopper and sensors.
The size of the all the optics in this setup is 1/2"
Beam height: 30mm
The whole setup is mounted on a 10mm thick 320x110 mm black anodized aluminum plate
All The optical components can be easily removed or replaced.
We don't know the exact value of the wavelength of the red laser but we believe it is in the range 630-660nm.
The green laser is missing but there are mounting holes that allow you to mount your own.
The red laser can be easily removed and replaced by another.
We believe that this setup can be made fully functional using a 12V power supply and an Arduino board.
This compact, pre-aligned, ready to use setup is made of high quality optics and can save you valuable time, space and money.
