WHY GO MODULAR?
Maximum Versatility
Are you frustrated when you don't have the carbide bar (size, length, insert, hand) you need? So you settle using something that struggles through the job, but it's less than ideal. It doesn't use the insert you prefer, it's not the hand you prefer, you may have to cut off the shank, and it's not coolant fed. In the "new norm" manufacturers are
reducing
their rigid shank options. Distributors are
reducing
stock levels. The result is fewer options to choose from, and fewer carbide shanks in stock on the shelf.
If you haven't noticed..... Tool$aver's fixed-pocket offering is limited and this is by design. Our budget fixed-pocket bars are a Tool$aver exclusive for Our Ebay customers. Our objective is twofold.
First, to introduce you to Tool$aver, our capability, quality and integrity. We want to earn your trust.
Second, we are making our tools affordable so that every shop can try a rigid shank, without taking out a bank loan. We are are certain that when you (your operator) use a rigid shank, you'll want to throw your steel shanks away. Once you experience rigidity, the next improvement is going modular. Introducing
V
ersaBar®
..... the next big thing in small diameter boring bars.
VersaBar® (developed and produced exclusively by Tool$aver in Texas) is available in a variety of shank lengths, coolant fed or non-coolant. You select the pocket style needed.
VersaBar®
heads mirror pocket dimensions on fixed-pocket bars, so no program alterations are necessary. Heads are stocked using
CCMT/CPMT, DCMT/DPMT, TCMT/TPMT, WCMT/WPMT, VCMT, CNMG, DNMG, WNMG, VNMG, LAYDOWN, ON EDGE and TOP NOTCH. The
VersaBar®
shank uses RH or LH heads. For shops that use metric shanks, the same head mounts to
inch or metric shank. Talk about versatility!
Think of
VersaBar®
as the universal screw driver of rigid boring bars.
Why invest in a new screw driver
when all you need is a new tip? There's more.
Reduced Setup Time
Consider setup time involved in changing out shanks and setting tool offsets? Compare that to less than 60 seconds changing out the
VersaBar® head! Head offsets remain, so setup time for boring bars can be reduced by as much as 90%. Multiply that over days, weeks, months..... minutes saved equals profit made.
Reduced Downtime
Let's face it, pocket crashes are fact of life. Most can be blamed on a worn pocket. Sometimes it may be a program glitch. It may happen when optimizing cycle time. It happens. Consider the downtime associated with the crash. Compare that to less than 60 seconds changing out the
VersaBar®
head! Tool offsets remain in tact, which means your machine is immediately back in production. Truly
the tool
pays you to use it.
But there's more.
VersaBar® head pockets actually increase edge life and
prevent
pocket crashes. Here's how.
VersaBar®
Heads Resist Wear
Rigid fixed-pocket bar pockets wear quickly. The reason is unfortunately the nature of the beast. The brazing process requires the tool to be heated to about 1300º F and then slow cooled. The effect of slow cooling sacrifices hardness to a lesser or greater degree.
VersaBar® heads bolt on, so their hardness is not compromised.
Consider this: A
s a pocket wears, tiny gaps (.001"-.010") manifest between the pocket and insert (often unnoticed by the operator). The gaps allow the insert to shift while in the cut. This encourages edge chipping, and size and surface finish are impacted as heat rapidly degrades the cutting edge. This results in more offset adjustments and insert indexing. Operators often resort to s
himming the pocket (to fill gaps), but deal with size variation, more offset adjustments, more indexing. What's the cost of the downtime and aggravation? Then the inevitable happens...... the insert snaps, blows out the pocket, possibly scrapping a part..... and you need a new fixed-pocket bar? Add it up.
It's impossible to quantify the indirect loss which results from operators continuing to use tools with worn pockets. But common sense tells us that a carbide insert snuggled against a soft surface is
not
a good thing. But operators try to avoid the downtime and cost cost associated with changing out the bar, so they nurse the bar along. As the pocket digresses, there are more
offset adjustments, more indexes, more chipped edges and finally...... the pocket blowout.
Maximum versatility, reduced setup costs, reduced downtime and extended pocket life are all compelling reasons to choose
V
ersaBar®.
And to make it even more cost effective for our Ebay customers...... send us your worn and crashed fixed-pocket bars and we'll retrofit them to accept modular V
ersaBar® heads!
