1st Officer General Markov regiment — the first of the military units of the Volunteer army (later V. S. Yu. R. and the Russian Army), received the nominal patronage of one of the founders of the White movement in the South of Russia General staff Lieutenant General S. L. Markov.
Date of Foundation — 4 (17) November 1917 — the day of the visit by General Alekseev in Novocherkassk hospital № 2 on the Baroque street, then first volunteers was organized by the Consolidated Officer's company.
With the beginning Of the first Kuban campaign in the village of Olginskaya, the Volunteer army was reorganized by reducing small units into larger units. Among the newly formed and was Consolidated's regiment later to be the nominal patronage of the first commander of General Markov.
Already during the Ice campaign Consolidated Officer regiment became known as Officer, from mid-March 1918, he was part of the commanded by General Markov 1st infantry brigade. On 27 may (9 June) 1918, it was renamed the 1st Officer regiment.
On 25 June 1918 in the battle at the station Shablievka was killed by General Markov, the commander of by that time the 1st infantry division of the Volunteer army. On the construction of its regiment commander Colonel Timanovskoe said, "from Now on, every rank of the regiment is named after the first commander. General Markov will not be with us, but he will live in the hearts of all of us and lead us invisibly, guide us. We will perpetuate his memory with our sacrificial love for the Motherland, with our unwavering spirit, with our deeds, the example of which he showed us. We in the ranks of his regiment will do our duty with full faith that Russia will again be great, United and Indivisible. To strengthen our spiritual connection with the Chief, the regimental feast day is established on the day of his angel-September 25, the day dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh." The black, uniform Markov was now a monogram of General Markov: "M" monogram — "G. M." for the 1st company of the regiment — "the company of General Markov". On October 16, 1919, General Markov's 3rd Officer regiment was formed. Its formation was conducted from September and took place in Kharkov on the basis of the 9th officer company of the 1st regiment. By order of the Commander in chief VSYUR from 27 October 1919, 1st infantry division, which included all three Markov regiment, was deployed in the Kornilov shock and Officer of General Markov infantry division. In addition to the Markov regiments of the composition formed division included Artillery General Markov brigade, formed on October 28, 1919 on the basis of the 1st artillery brigade, 1 separate engineering General Markov Rota. In the spring and in the fall of 1919 was created the reserve battalion of the Markov division — one for the whole division and one for each regiment, the footage of which went to replenish combat units. The battalions were disbanded in early 1920. In such a composition division was part of 1 th army corps.
31 Dec 1919 during the retreat of the Markov division of the armed forces of South Russia in the Donbass were surrounded in the village alekseevo-Leonovo and almost all perished. After the restoration of its strength, in January 1920, successfully held the defense South of Rostov-on-don. But during the retreat of Denikin's army into the Kuban re-potrapila lose on February 29 in a battle near the village Olginskaya, and then on 1 March, the division was reformed in the Officer of General Markov regiment. Before the evacuation of the "Markov" part of severoceska in Crimea, March 26, 1920, the division was restored. In Crimea, it became part of the formed 1st army corps. May 11, 1920, after renaming the armed forces of South Russia with General P. N. Wrangel in the Russian army, Officer of General Markov, the division was renamed as the Infantry General Markov division (in accordance with this renaming became known as regiments of a division and artillery brigade). In the summer of 1920, reserve battalions of regiments and divisions were re-established as part of the division (the latter was intended for deployment to the 4th regiment, the formation of which began in October). As part of the 1st army corps Markov division participated in the battles in Northern Tavria, the Dnieper operation, the last battles before leaving the Crimea.
In early November 1920, the division, along with other parts of the Russian army evacuated from the Crimea. On November 27 in Gallipoli the remnants of the division were consolidated in a Markov Markov regiment and artillery battalion
